Bio

Buddy Quinn is a recent alumnus of Montserrat College of Art with a concentration in metal sculpting. Using a mix of archaic and modern methods of metal working he explores the formal aspects of many different kinds of figures ranging from humans to animals. Capturing motion and gesture in a figure is the primary focus when he is creating a sculpture. His pieces are made by hammering, planishing, and welding steel together to try and emulate a figure as it moves in life. The long process helps Buddy slow down and become intimately familiar with every piece of the sculpture as it is slowly pieced together to reveal a form. Buddy’s subjects are drawn from bits of history and local nature as well as relationships and experiences that he has cultivated as he grows.
